Competing against bands from across Melbourne and country Victoria, the Warrnambool and District Pipes and Drums band took out the top prize for grade 4.
Pipe major Donald Blair said the band was made up of many younger players whereas many of the other bands were predominately adults.
"It was quite an achievement because we have young players down to 11 year olds in the band," he said.
Mr Blair said the band was now looking forward to competing at the Australian championships in Maryborough next April.
He said Warrnambool entered two bands in the same grade during the competition season.
"The number one band is playing music at the highest level and is always very challenging," he said. The number two band is for developing players.
"The band continues to be a strong musical force in our district," Mr Blair said.
"The band is becoming very popular in the community and there's a big demand for our members, particularly during the holiday and summer time.
"The band is a great community and a great thing to be a part of. We are always looking for learner players."
