Tankers from Koroit, Winslow, Woodford, and Kirkstall joined with Warrnambool firefighters to help battle the blaze which burnt through 10 hectares on private property at Tower Hill Road.
Koroit CFA incident controller Nathan Jobling said the initial call came through at 3.50pm.
"Everyone responded really well, which was a great asset to help stop the spread," Mr Jobling said.
"The wind has been a concern, especially blowing from the south. We are glad to have stopped it to the size that we have."
The source of the fire was undetermined, with the fire investigation team still to have a good look around the affected property, Mr Jobling said.
Timber and rubbish in the middle of the fire ground will prolong the blacking out process but posed no danger to surrounding properties.
"It's all under control, it's now just a matter of blacking out and getting fire investigation on scene to determine a cause," Mr Jobling said.
The property owner, who did not wish to be identified, praised the quick work of the CFA in stopping the spread of the fire.
"It was great to see how quickly they responded," he said.
