The 42 year-old has been named in the cast of 56 who will perform in the one-week show that sees Holiday Actors and The Warrnambool Theatre Company joining forces for the first time.
"It was an exciting time because it was the last show that I did with Holiday Actors before I clicked over the age barrier and couldn't be in the show anymore," Dr Thies said.
"It's such a privilege and so exciting to be a part of it again.
"I think its one of the best musicals ever written.
"And the good part is I don't have to re-learn all the words this time round."
Dr Thies joins an array of returning actors and family members making up an experienced south-west cast.
Warrnambool Theatre Company president Ailiche Goddard-Clegg said rehearsals will begin March 30 after 110 auditions were conducted in recent weeks.
"The cast and crew chosen represent a cross section of the community," she said.
"There are members aged from 11 all the way through to 70 and they're all local performers.
"The orchestra is also a collection of local musicians."
Holiday Actors treasurer Lyle Russell said Les Misérables includes romance, a student revolution, tragedy and history.
"It has lots of messages in it but I think its the music that sells it," she said.
"Everyone just loves it and remembers it."
Lighthouse Theatre Acting Service Manager Xavier Dannock said that it was exciting to be able to host this great new initiative from both companies.
"Les Misérables is a renowned musical, and for the two main theatre companies to join forces means the show is sure to be a hit," he said.
The Warrnambool Theatre Company and Holiday Actors production of Les Misérables will be performed at the Lighthouse Theatre from July 20 to July 27.
