The Ciaron Maher-trained horse defeated Declarationofheart by a short half head, with Cossetot back in third in the Group 2 race over 2040 metres.

The Group 1 ATC Derby, to be run at Randwick on April 6, is over 2400 metres.

Global Exchange has won his last three starts. Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, said the son of Dundeel will appreciate the open spaces of Randwick, compared to the tight turning circuit at Moonee Valley.

"I was pretty confident going to the Valley that Global Exchange would win the Alister Clark, but there was a niggling thought in the back of my mind he might not like the track," Maher said.

"He just showed how good he is by the way he finished off the race. He's a big, strong colt and will be better suited to the 2400 metres of the ATC Derby.

"The horse has just kept on thriving in his work and racing. We put the blinkers on him and that has really improved his racing style.

"He's still learning. We'll go straight into the derby with him now.

"He's by Dundell and they breed tough types of stayers and Global Exchange appears to be no different.

"I think he'll be an exciting type of horse going into the big spring races in Melbourne later this year."

Global Exchange has won four races from six starts, winning more than $270,000 for his connections.

RACING Victoria will continue paying a $10,000 bonus for horses that win their first career jumping race this season.

Lucques, trained by Eric Musgrove, picked up the bonus at the first jumps race for the 2019-20 season in winning a maiden hurdle at Warrnambool last week.

The scheme which was first introduced in 2012 has been a resounding success for jumps racing with the bonus split between owners (80 per cent) and trainers (20 per cent). The bonus is to help promote participation and grows interest in the sport.

More than $3.8 million in prizemoney is on offer to jumps racing participates in this season. This significant investment is testimony to the health of the jumps racing industry.

EVERYONE wants to be with a winner — just ask inform Warrnambool trainer Peter Chow.

For the first time in his 10-year training career, Chow has 12 horses in work.

When you also milk cows, it's a pretty hectic lifestyle for the quietly spoken trainer.

Chow trained Leila's Star to score an impressive victory at her home track last Thursday.

"I've got no real complaints," he said.

"We've got 12 horses in work and that's the most we've had in my career.

"It's keeping me very busy training horses and milking cows. I'm very lucky I've got Stewie Bishop and other staff to help me out.

"I suppose the reason why we've got the 12 horses in work came about because we've had a bit of luck over the last year or so."

The former Port Fairy footballer said he was confident Leila's Star would win at Warrnambool after consistent form in this campaign.

"She deserved the win," Chow said. "She ran on solidly last time at Ararat on a leaders track and on the back of that I thought she had to be hard to beat."

Robbie's Star resumed with a third placing at odds of 100/1 at Geelong on Saturday, but Chow said the seven-year-old was destined for a jumping campaign.

"It was a top flat run by Robbie's Star," he said.

"We want to jump him in this preparation. He loves wet ground and has shown a liking for the jumps. We'll just take him along slowly with a few flat runs before kicking off his jumping career."

Delos, a newcomer to Chow's stable, was unplaced in a restricted race at Geelong.

"We got Delos as a jumper," he said. "His best form is over more ground then the 1300 metres he ran over on Saturday.

"We've done a bit of schooling over the jumps with Delos and he appears to like the jumping caper."

Delos was originally trained by Gai Waterhouse before David Joice took over and then Chow.

STEWARDS outed Warrnambool Grand Annual Steeplechase-winning jockey Clayton Douglas for a whip indiscretion at Sale last Friday.

Douglas was found to have used his whip on 10 occasions — 5 more then permitted. His licence was suspended for six meetings.

The suspension started midnight on March 23 and ends March 29.

WARRNAMBOOL galloper Begood Toya Mother may be Adelaide bound after an easy win in a restricted race over 1300 metres on his home track last Thursday.

Trained by Daniel Bowman, Begood Toya Mother defeated Quietly Angry by more then two lengths, with Trenchant in third place.

Bowman said the lightly raced four-year-old had always shown potential.

"Begood Toya Mother has taken time to mature," he said. "I think he's finally putting it all together, but in saying that I'm confident there's still plenty of improvement in him.

"We may take him to Adelaide for his next run or two because there's some nice money on offer."
