A collective of 10 property owners, calling themselves the Terjesen Court Owners Corporation, continues to lobby Moyne Shire Council for a footpath adjoining their properties.

Group secretary David Wilson said the group had sent a number of submissions requesting a footpath in Gipps Street between Campbell Street and Terjesen Court, to council in the past, with no joy.

"The owners of Merrijig Inn have supported the Corporation's initiative, also recognising the need to provide convenient and safe access along this part of Gipps Street," Mr Wilson said.

"The existing soil, rock and sparsely grassed walkway is uneven along its length with the constant risk of falls by users of all age groups, with elderly residents and visitors particularly vulnerable.

"A number of local elderly residents rely on the use of walking aids and are progressively losing confidence in transiting to nearby made footpaths for exercise and visiting the town centre."

Mr Wilson said council officers had agreed in written responses to the corporation's requests that a new footpath was desirable and that it had been referred to council's budget process for consideration on a number of occasions.

"Council advised in December that the proposed path was listed for consideration, but had been removed from the 2018/19 works program," he said.

"The corporation understands from council advice that the proposed path remains on a list of desirable projects in future works programs.

"It believes that ongoing deterioration of the existing walkway, with increased safety risks, should make it essential that a new footpath is constructed in 2019/20."

A spokesperson for Moyne Shire Council said while it recognised a new footpath would be desirable, it would again be referred to the next budget process for consideration by council. He said council prioritises the replacement of existing footpaths that are in poor condition, rather than increasing the number of assets.
