The mother-of-two has replaced Rose Wombwell who had signed on for the 2019 Hampden league season before stepping down due to work commitments.

Kelsey, who has previous experience as the Roos' leader, said she was happy to fill the void.

"Being so close to the season starting and close to us picking our team, they needed someone straight away," she said.

"They club came to me and I said 'if you can't find anyone else, I am more than happy to put my hand up because it's the right thing to do for the club'.

"If we had more time they might have gone out and looked for someone else or approached someone else."

Kelsey said Wombwell had a heavy workload.

"Rose has been allocated principal at another school and she's been busy at two schools and your job comes first," she said.

"It was a bit busy for her."

The Lewis sisters will team up again, giving the Kangaroos stability at either end of the court.

Kelsey will hold up goal attack and Rhianne, who is coming off a knee reconstruction, will add experience to their defensive end.

Recruit Aly Smead, who is returning to the club, will also play a defensive role.

Kelsey said her aims for the Roos' season, which starts on April 6 against reigning premier Koroit, were simple.

"I want to get them back to enjoying playing netball. If the wins come then that's a bonus," she said.

"We're working on the minor things so we are in contention to win games."
