The 2019-20 jumps season kicks off with a restricted steeplechase, maiden hurdle and restricted hurdle on the eight-race program.

More than 12 millimetres of rain has fallen at the course in the past week, on top of 24mls of irrigation.

Lumsden said the track should be rated a soft five for the opening race, a restricted steeplechase.

“We had eight millimetres of rain on Monday night and that was the icing on the cake for the track following the irrigation,” he said.

“It’s always good to get rain for the opening jumps races. I’m pretty confident the track will be a soft five come race time. The running rail is in the true position for the flat races.”

New Zealand-bred galloper Blues Breaker makes his Australian jumping for Warrnambool trainer Symon Wilde. Blues Breaker has won one from his five jumps starts and filled the minor placings on three occasions in New Zealand.

“I’m pleased how Blues Breaker has progressed for his first jumps run for us,” Wilde said.

“His two jumps trials have been good. I think with a bit of time he should develop into a nice jumper.”

The meeting is Warrnambool’s Annual Community Race Day. This year, the Warrnambool Pony Club was chosen as the supporting partner. The pony club will receive a donation from the club which includes all admission sales and net sponsorship profit from the day.

The first race is scheduled to start at 2.10pm with the last set down to begin at 6.10pm.
