Purcell said the 3200 metres of the group two race holds no fears for Double Bluff and Khezerabad.
“I’m confident my two runners will run out a strong two miles,” the Warrnambool based trainer said.
“There’s a few runners who may struggle to run out the distance. Double Bluff has run second and fourth at his last two runs in the Adelaide Cup and Khezerabad won over 2500 metres at Flemington three runs back.
"We need pace in the race and if it’s on I think my blokes will come home solidly at the end of two miles.”
Bondeiger, trained by Ciaron Maher, is the early favourite for the Adelaide Cup on the back of an impressive win in the Lord Reims Stakes - which is the traditional lead up race to Adelaide’s feature flat race.
Bookmakers have installed Bondeiger as a $3.70 hope, while Double Bluff and Khezerabad are rated $41 chances.
Meanwhile, Maher’s mare Naantail kept up her consistent record with a second placing in a $160,000 fillies and mares race at Flemington on Saturday.
From her 16 starts Naantail has won five races and ran second on six occasions. She has earnt more then $360,000 in prizemoney for her connections.
Thunder Cloud ran third in a restricted race over 2000 metres for Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, while their Australian Cup runners Yogi and Nights Watch ran out of the placings.
Trap For Fools, trained by Warrnambool’s Jarrod McLean, finished in third place in the $1.5 million Australian Cup.
The five-year-old showed he’s not far away from another feature race victory after the placing.
