It's been another big week of local news but are we on track in getting faster, modern trains on the Warrnambool rail line?
If you ask the state opposition, which released a document from V/Line this week, VLocity trains and carriages will not be added to the Warrnambool line because the track, despite upgrades that will total $114million, will not be suitable.
But the state government says it is on track with plans to bring VLocity trains to the line.
Premier Daniel Andrews and then Transport Minister Jacinta Allan have repeatedly said the $114 million upgrade would "pave the way for VLocity trains".
Ms Allan, who is now Transport Infrastructure Minister, says major construction on the line is scheduled to begin by the end of the year and the works completed late in 2020.
"Only Labor invests in regional rail, and only Labor will deliver VLocity carriages to Warrnambool," she told The Standard.
But when?
The government needs to take us on the journey to an improved service and outline its plan.
South-west residents are fed up with the politicking around the region's train service.
We have been campaigning for more than 20 years; the cancellations, delays, broken air-conditioning reports continue to mount. Punctuality, reliability are poor.
We deserve better. And that starts with an end to the political football.
Speaking of football, cricket isn't over yet it's making news. Our sports team is busy producing some interesting stories, like catching up with Terang Mortlake export Lewis Taylor and our premier AFLW export Emma Kearney.
We've had a couple of inspirational stories this week. Make sure you check out Katrina Lovell's piece about Peterborough's Ben Harkin, who knows no limits, despite being born without arms.
The weather has been perfect for the annual Port Fairy Folk Festival, which is again delighting punters. This weekend's 43rd festival has been headlined by the award-winning singer/songwriter Kasey Chambers. Journalist Brian Allen caught up with her.
The weather has also been perfect for gardening. We all have an interest in our gardens and flowers so today I am pleased to be able to giveaway four double passes valued at $60 each to the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show, which runs from March 27 to March 31 at the Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, Carlton.
To be in the running for the double passes, enter your details in this link.
Here's a selection of stories from this week to kick off your Sunday.
Until next week
