The usual buyers attended the reduced sized, overall good quality yarding of 986 cattle that generally fluctuated close to last week's prices. Vealers were equal to 10c easier, as yearlings sold mostly unchanged in prices, while cows were equal to a shade dearer. The grown steers made from unchanged to 5c and even 6c/kg more in places. The yarding comprised 321 grown steers, 234 young cattle, 406 cows and 25 bulls. Another good sized penning of vealers saw most better quality make from 255c to 290c, with several sales reaching a top of 308c, as restockers paid to 260c/kg. The few yearlings to the processors made from 220c to 260c, with two very good steers receiving 280c, as restockers paid to 262c/kg. Majority of the C3 grown steers sold from 245c to 271c, as the C4 grade made up to 282c/kg. The D2 manufacturing grade sold from 214c to 223c, with a plainer quality pen lot making 196c/kg. There were quite a few pens of 3 and 4 score heavy weight beef cows and these sold from 195c to 224c/kg. The D2 cows made from 150c to 188c, with the odd very good pen of Friesians making 200c/kg. The few D1 cows sold from 147c to 152c and most E1 cows made from 110c and 145c, with very poor condition lots receiving from 65c/kg. Heavy weight beef bred bulls sold from 215c to 245c/kg.

EYCI CATTLE REPORT
The Bureau of Meteorology's new three-month rainfall outlook points to a delayed autumn break and much lower chance of rainfall exceeding the median across the eastern half of the nation from March to May. The bleak rainfall prospect and increased cattle yardings along the east coast conspired to see prices for younger store cattle and breeding stock ease last week. The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) fell 3.6 per cent to its lowest level in over three years to close at 434¢/kg cwt. Cattle throughput in the eastern states lifted 14 per cent on levels set the week prior to sit 5 per cent above the five-year trend for this time in the season. Young cattle in the east not the only cattle type to register a decline last week with the medium cow indicator leading the percentage price falls to see nearly a 5 per cent drop to 175.9¢/kg lwt. Feeder steers also eased slightly, down 1.4 per cent to 250.4¢/kg lwt. Although trade, medium and heavy steers are beginning to show signs of supply concerns by posting 1 per cent-6 per cent price gains across the eastern states.
