Bookmakers slashed Bondeiger’s price for the Adelaide Cup from $5 to $3.80 following his win over Sylpheed and October Date in the Lord Reims.
Formerly trained by Darren Weir, the seven-year-old is now trained by former Winslow trainer Ciaron Maher after Weir was disqualified for four years last month.
“It was only Bondeiger’s second run for the stable,” Maher said.
“He came to us in excellent condition from Weir’s.
"I thought his first run for us at Moonee Valley was full of merit and on that performance we went into the Lord Reims full of confidence.
"It was a very good win and now we look forward to the Adelaide Cup.
"He’s never run over the 3200 metres of the Adelaide Cup but you would think he would run the distance out the way he finished the 2600 metres of the Lord Reims.
"The Lord Reims is usually a very good form line going forward to the Adelaide Cup.”
The $400,000 Adelaide Cup is to be run on March 11 at Morphettville.
Maher, who trains in partnership with David Eustace, had five runners at Flemington but could not manage a place-getter.
The stable produced Sunday Night Tea to win a restricted race at Wangaratta on Saturday.
