The Port Fairy's Family Carnival spokesperson said after 71 summers spent in the township, this was the group's first grievance received.

"This is the first year we have ever had a complaint," Ms Sheather said.

"And we've been coming here since we were first invited by the Moyneyana Festival more than 70 years ago."

The carnival, run by Godfrey's Amusement, was issued with a noise complaint from the Moyne Shire Council last month.

The complaint was from a nearby resident.

"The issue was the music was too loud," Ms Sheather said. "We can measure noise and the tests showed it was okay but we turned the music off an hour before we closed each night to avoid upsetting anyone."

The carnival is held at Railway Place in the heart of the town's CBD.

"Every single week we are inspected by OHS staff of every council where we set up," she said. "We are tested for our rides, our food, everything from maintenance to fixtures and electrical. We take it very seriously."

The carnival, who employ 10 locals each year, is timed to coincide with the town's annual Moyneyana Festival.

Each year its organisers donate a percentage of proceeds to Moyne Health Services.

This year the group's total donation topped $100,000.

"It was great to visit the hospital this year and see how the money has helped," Ms Sheather said.

After 16 summers spent in Port Fairy, this has become her second home.

"We do 60 shows on average per year and one carnival," she said. "When we first arrive at The Red Hen for hot chips each year it's like seeing family again."

Council advised it would look into the complaint and respond by mid-year.

"We'll be back next year and we'll try to make it bigger and better," Ms Sheather said.
