Eleven of the club's senior competition squad will travel up to Cronulla for the last round of the Ocean6 series.
Matt Hardiman, Sophie Thomas, Brayden Casamento, Harry McNamara, Conor Cook, Charlie Moncrieff, Declan Hoffmann, Elissa Johnson, Stella Bridgewater, Will McNeil and coach Steve Kerr will all test themselves against the best.
"The difference in local level to level of Ocean6 is huge. It is like going from local level footy to the AFL," O'Brien said of the skill level.
"It’s a massive jump. Often they have mixed it with the best and they come back pretty confident.
"A lot more of the squad are going with skis and that means the taplin relay is going on. It's pretty good to be giving them more events to do."
O'Brien said it was a good chance for the squad to fine-tune before jumping into a busy schedule of carnivals, including the state championships in Warrnambool on March 9-10 followed by The Aussies (national carnival) from March 30 to April 7.
"It's a good, high level competition," he said.
"They get a solid hit out before states and Aussies is end of march so timing is good."
The senior squad is not the only ones in action this weekend with over 50 of the club's junior athletes competing at the junior state championships at Lorne.
The two-day carnival attracts more than 1350 athletes from across the state.
