Detective Senior Constable Jarrod Anderson, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said Mr McEwan was arrested in north Portland at 11.55am on Tuesday.
He was wanted in relation to breaching court orders.
Mr McEwan later appeared in the Portland Magistrates Court for a bail application.
He unsuccessfully applied for bail and was remanded in custody until April 2.
In a separate case, a Portland man aged in his 20s was also arrested in north Portland on Tuesday and charged with cultivating and trafficking cannabis.
Christian Cluney also unsuccessfully applied for bail in Portland court and was remanded in custody until March 26
Last Friday: Police are requesting information from the public in the search for wanted 33-year-old man Troy McEwan, who failed to appear at court.
Mr McEwan, 33, failed to attend at the Portland Magistrates Court on January 8 charged with breaching a court-imposed intervention order.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
He is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 181cms, of thin build, with blue eyes and light brown hair.
Mr McEwan is known to frequent Portland, Heywood and Warrnambool districts.
