And any fighter will tell you that you need good people in your corner and on Tuesday Pevitt, who celebrates his 55th birthday on Thursday, had one of the best pay him a visit.
Former International Boxing Federation Super Featherweight Champion Barry Michael travelled to Port Fairy to lend his support to one of his greatest admirers.
“Barry was my boxing hero,” Pevitt said.
“I’ve always been a keen boxing fan and to have Barry visit me was sensational. He’s left some signed boxing memorabilia which is great.
"I can still remember when he won his title against Lester Ellis in a bloodbath fight in 1985. I’m so greatful that Barry could find the time in his busy schedule to come to Port Fairy.
I’ve also got to thank Adrian and Mick Hearn for making it all possible.”
Micheal said Pevitt is a true inspiration to people in all walks of life.
“I’m just so glad I could make the trip,” he said.
“Jimmy’s doing it tough but he’s still got a smile on his face and got a great great sense of humour.
"It’s a pleasure that I could come and visit Jim – no one knows what’s around the corner with your health so it’s always good to be able to offer a helping hand.”
Michael, who fought all over the world had 60 professional fights for 48 wins, nine losses and three draws.
