Jyron Neave, 19, of Lindsay Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates to driving-related offences. Neave told the court he was an “idiot” when he was drunk but hadn’t consumed alcohol in about four weeks.
Magistrate Franz Holzer said Neave’s actions were stupid and avoidable.
“Had you killed someone you would live with that for the rest of your life,” he said.
“You’re not invincible… you’re a hazard.”
Neave was fined $1000 and his licence was cancelled for 28 months.
On September 28, 2018, Neave was intercepted by police travelling on Warrnambool’s Balmoral Road about 2am.
He blew 0.119 then told police he had drunk about six schooners of beer and two bourbons.
His licence was suspended and his vehicle was impounded.
The following month Neave was intercepted on Merri Crescent, where he blew 0.173.
The vehicle he was driving was also impounded.
He told police he had consumed 10 schooners and when asked why he was driving drunk and without a licence, he replied “I don’t care what you write”.
Mr Holzer said Neave’s attitude to the offending at the time of the intercept was unacceptable.
