Sarah Eldred, 27, of Jubilee Park Road, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to making a false document.
The court heard Eldred and her ex-husband had made arrangements for her to drive a 2011 Ford Territory that the victim had financed, in lieu of him paying child support.
The agreement was signed off at the Warrnambool police station on November 18, 2016.
But around November 3, Eldred forged the victim's signature on a VicRoads document, transferring the vehicle into her name which allowed her to sell the vehicle to a Noble Park man.
The victim rang VicRoads who confirmed the vehicle was registered in Eldred's name. He then attended Warrnambool police station and made a statement saying he never signed the document.
The man who purchased the vehicle told police he had bought the car off Eldred, who was alone at the time.
Eldred attended the station on April 5, 2017, for interview.
Magistrate Ann McGarvie said the offending was concerning.
"People relied on that piece of paper to have been signed by both parties," she said.
"You don't forge anyone's signature, even with consent, but more importantly without."
