Players in the reserves, under 14 and 16 grades will fix their eyes on yellow footballs for the 2019 season.
All other grades will use the traditional red ball.
Hampden league president Tim Mason said the idea to use yellow balls came from the clubs.
This was signed off on at the annual general meeting, with clubs unanimously voted in favour of the change.
"The meetings we have with clubs are to find out what they are happy and not happy about", Mason said.
"We are all for change if the clubs want it and if it has long term benefits for everyone."
Koroit president Stephen Hoy said discussions among the clubs all pointed to the change to yellow balls being a positive.
"One of the main reasons for the change is it will save clubs a lot of money," Hoy said.
"I would estimate it will save us about $1000 this year on footys. By having yellow match footys in three grades, it will allow us to reuse them at training.
"In the middle of winter when it is cold and wet, that extra brightness of the yellow balls helps the quality of training."
Hoy played down any concerns about the quality of yellow footballs for match play.
"Everyone is pretty happy with the quality of the yellow footys," he said.
"There are a number of former players among the club presidents and no-one had any dramas with using yellow footys in a match."
