Kids can look forward to years of summer fun ahead with Macarthur Swimming Pool opening its new slide on Saturday. A big crowd turned out to take a ride on the $40,000 attraction which replaced the previous water slide that was more than 20 years old. Moyne Shire councillor Daniel Meade was at the official opening and said people from far and wide enjoyed the new slide. “It’s a great project,” he said. “It was community driven and community led." While Cr Meade didn’t take a ride, his 4-year-old son Seamus thoroughly enjoyed the water slide. Seamus was among the first to try it and had about five turns. Moyne Shire Council chipped in $18,000 for the project as part of its Community Assistance Fund. But the bulk of the $40,000 was raised by the Macarthur Swimming Pool committee in the past six months. The committee’s Linda Malseed said funding came from sponsors as well as from wood raffles, pub raffles, barbecue fundraisers and an auction night. She said there was still time for people from the across the region to try the slide before the season ended. “We’ve got another six weeks,” she said.
