Rukshan Weerasinghe produced a memorable 136 to lead Russells Creek to victory over West Warrnambool at Davidson Oval.
At one stage, the Creekers were 3-1 in pursuit of 151.
It was a target they had to chase with just nine men, with Shashan Silva unavailable on day two of the game with his wife in labour. Jimmy Elford also did not bat, thanks to a training mishap on Thursday night where he broke his thumb.
Elford said the extent of his time on the sidelines was not yet known, but the early prognosis was not good.
“I am going to see a plastic surgeon on Wednesday so I will find out more than,” Elford said.
“They are saying it will be six weeks before it starts to heal.
“They might put it in a splint but I’m not sure at this stage.
“It doesn’t look great, if we make it to finals I will be doing all I can to play.
“I’m shattered, country week is also just around the corner and I was really looking forward to that.”
While Elford is devastated by his personal predicament, he was thrilled with his team's effort on Saturday.
“It was really tough for the batsmen, particularly early, they bowled really well,” he said.
“With a couple of us not able to bat it did give an opportunity for some others and they really stood up.
“Brett Nuske did well making the step up from division two and getting some runs.”
