The 23-year-old Portland export, who is entering his third year at the Saints, told the club’s Instagram page in a Q&A on Thursday that he was looking to add to his frame for a shifted role in the side this season.
“My goal is to put on a bit more size and get a bit stronger," he told Saints’ fans.
“I think I’ll be playing more ruck time this year so it’s been really good and I’m looking forward to it (the new role).”
The emerging ruckman/forward added 12 games to his career tally in 2018 – his only other game coming in his 2017 debut against Sydney in round 18 – which saw him upgraded to the senior list after spending two seasons as a rookie.
Marshall said having a front row seat to the Saints’ exciting pre-season training had unearthed some steep improvers in the squad.
“The mature ages have been really good this year. Matty Parker has really been standing out with his speed and x-factor,” he said. “Nick Hind has been as well. His dash of half-back is really exciting.
“There has been a lot of impressive performances this year in pre-season.
“Hunter Clarke has been up there and running PBs in the three-kilometre time-trial and Ed Phillips has gone to another level as well, which is really exciting.”
Marshall and his St Kilda teammates will be hoping for a bigger 2019 after finishing 16th with four wins, 17 defeats and one draw last year.
