It is debatable whether their limited faculties were actually capable of picking up on each other’s presence, but there it is.
But there was a point. Their message to Premier Daniel Andrews, who refused an invite this week to visit the region to meet victims of the St Patrick’s Day bushfires and witness for himself Powercor’s ageing and decrepit infrastructure, was simple: “Dan, come on down! You can’t ignore us!”
Of course both Timmy Auld and Andrew Thomson were heavily involved in covering the fall of the Darren Weir empire this week. They figure four years was a bit light but there were no winners.
Hang on, what about Ciaron Maher? Well, apart from Maher, who picked up seven of Weir’s group 1 winners and his palatial Ballarat stables, there were no winners.
The venerable pair also reckon there haven’t been too many winners at the HFNL of late, but the return of Bernie Harris had ‘em excited: “Bernie will save us! And it’ll be colourful too.”
What a week! What a pair! What, it’s time for a drink?
