At the league’s annual general meeting this week, a suggestion came from club land to have an admission fee for the Sunday junior competition.
One suggestion put forward was that clubs could include the cost of entry to Sundays in their memberships. It was agreed clubs would take the idea back to their committees to discuss.
The issue would then be discussed further at a future club forum. Any changes would not come into play until the 2020 season.
The league has already set its gate pricing for 2019, with entry to Sunday juniors free during the home-and-away season. Entry to finals goes from $7 in 2018 to $8 in 2019 for adults and a rise of $5 to $6 for student/concession.
Hampden league president Tim Mason said the idea of a charge for home-and-away games for beyond 2019 had come from clubs.
“This is certainly something floated by the clubs, it was the first we had heard of it” Mason said.
“As a league, we have not formed an opinion on this, this is very much about the clubs having a chat about it and seeing what direction they want to take.”
In other junior football news, the league is unsure if it will field an under 18 interleague team this season. Hampden had a team in 2018, contributing to close to a $9000 increase in interleague costs. Mason said a decision has yet to be made whether an under 18 game will be held this year.
