However, it will be the Bloods’ inaugural Deakin University Female Football League team which will call DC Farren Oval home.
Female football sub-committee member Noel McConnell said the club was planning to field a side in the competition in 2019, which will expand to 11 teams for its third season, after 21 players attended a pre-Christmas training session.
“We were rapt to have that many girls showing interest at the training session and the club thought it was time to have a team,” he said.
“Every club will eventually have one and we thought being one of the early clubs was a good thing for us.”
But before the Bloods female side can play their first game they are searching for a head coach.
McConnell said the sub-committee would be happy with either gender as a coach but were hopeful a women would take the reigns.
“We are looking with someone with rapport with women’s football and be able to help the girls have fun and enjoy their football,” he said.
“We want them to want to keep coming back and build a long career in football. We are hoping to find someone who has a similar mould to (Western Bulldogs coach) Luke Beveridge, who is an open and welcoming person.”
The players have a representative in the five-person sub-committee, which will aid in picking the new side’s mentor.
David Keating has agreed to be the general manager and Alison Kenna the team manager.
The successful applicant will also get the opportunity to spend a week with the Greater Western Sydney Giants’ women’s team in the company of their head coach Alan McConnell with access to all areas of the club.
Alan, a Terang export and the brother of Noel, is in his second season as coach of the Sydney-based side.
In his first season he lead GWS to a fourth-place finish in the club’s second year in the AFLW.
