Reihana Heremaia, 31, of Saywell Court, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court to drug trafficking and unlawful assault. 

The court heard he initially planned to contest the drug charges but Magistrate Franz Holzer said the police had sufficient evidence to prove the 32 grams of ice belonged to Heremaia.

He was sentenced to six months’ jail for drug trafficking and an extra one month for unlawful assault.

He has already served 185 days in custody on remand. 

On June 26, police were called to a domestic dispute at a property in Warrnambool’s Murray Street.

Upon their arrival Heremaia was seen holding a stereo speaker above his head and making motions to throw it at the victim, his former partner. 

Police said the victim was seated in a vehicle. Heremaia began hurling abuse at the woman who was forced to reverse the car in order to avoid the stereo being thrown through the window. 

Heremaia was placed in the back of a divisional van, where he continued to yell threatening remarks at the victim. 

Then on August 3, police executed a search warrant at a property Heremaia was residing at with co-accused Bernard Whelan, 28.

Police located 12 grams of ice in Heremaia’s wallet as well as $340 cash. 

A further 14 grams of ice was located inside a stereo speaker and 7.5 grams underneath a coffee table. 

The court heard that at the time of the offending, Heremaia was on a six-month community corrections order for failing to appear in court and driving matters. That order was varied to continue upon his release from jail. 

In November, Whelan pleaded guilty to possessing and trafficking ice and was jailed for three months.

His lawyer Alex McCulloch told the court that there was no evidence of Whelan trafficking.
