The Bombers have received $15,750 under the Australian Government’s Stronger Communities Program.

Bombers volunteer Tracy Hickey said the grant, announced by Member for Wannon Dan Tehan on Thursday, would go towards the construction of a shelter at its netball courts.

The club also wants to add two more netball courts and an additional tennis court in the future as well as improved lighting.

“From a club perspective, our netball area is really outdated and we don’t have any shelter,” Hickey said.

“We are in desperate need of shelter for the bench, coaches, supporters and players.

“It is extremely open. In winter it is a wind tunnel and it just blows through there. 

“It puts a lot of people off coming to watch, particularly grandparents so hopefully we create a better atmosphere.”

Hickey said the club had the support of the Corangamite Shire and would continue to apply for grants.

Tehan said upgrades to facilities encouraged more people to be active and play sport. 

He said any developments would also help the town’s tennis club and CFA which also used Cobden Recreation Reserve for training.

“I congratulate all the committee members on their application and look forward to the development of this wonderful facility,” he said.
