A 24-year-old woman is likely to be charged after illegally dumping two trailer loads of rubbish on a Naringal roadside on Wednesday.
It was dumped on the side of Dingey Road, a narrow rural road, which Warrnambool police said could have had catastrophic consequences for other motorists.
The disposed goods included a large amount of rubbish, including multiple bags of household waste and other items which were discovered on Wednesday morning.
Warrnambool police Sergeant Tom Morris said they had since interviewed a 24-year-old woman from Naringal on Friday in relation to the incident. “A woman’s been formally interviewed and has been released pending summons,” Sergeant Morris said. “She is expected to be charged at a later date.”
Moyne Shire mayor Mick Wolfe said it was disappointing to see this kind of behaviour and it was costly to send crews out to clean up other people’s mess. “To dump it on the road is no good for the environment or the people who live in the area. What if everyone did that? It’s a heath risk and it’s disgusting,” Cr Wolfe said.
He said 99 per cent of people did the right thing and disposed of their waste appropriately. “We don’t make a profit on tip fees. Anything we make from rubbish collection goes back into that service.”

Rubbish illegally dumped on the side of a narrow rural road in Naringal could have catastrophic consequences for other motorists, a Warrnambool police member says.
Leading Senior Constable Greg Kew said a large amount of rubbish and household items were dumped on Dingey Road on Wednesday morning.
He said the rubbish remained on the side of the road and urged motorists in the area to be careful.
“About 10am a car dumped two trailer loads of household rubbish including mattresses, bin waste, nappies and all sorts of refuse, which was disgusting,” Leading Senior Constable Kew said.
“It’s a traffic hazard. It’s a narrow road and if you get two cars coming towards each other at they same time, it could have catastrophic consequences.”
He said a couple of different witnesses who saw the rubbish being dumped reported it to police.
“We’ve identified the offender and have spoken to a person in their mid 20s from the area, who will be formally spoken to by police again in the coming days,” Leading Senior Constable Kew said.
He said the Moyne Shire would be notified early Thursday morning.
“It’s a disgrace. It’s filthy. It’s ugly and it’s disgusting. No one likes to see it or clean it up. The Moyne Shire will have to come out and clean it up and foot the bill,” he said.
“It’s a total disrespect to the beautiful country environment that we have.
“I don’t think anybody who drove past today was happy with what they saw.”
