In its tightest game of the week so far, the GCA defeated Red Cliffs by 14 runs on Wednesday.
Opener Justin Coates (45) was solid in an innings that produced six contributions under 10. The efforts of Coates and Braden Hotker (27 not out) helped GCA to a score of 137.
GCA’s highly rated bowling attack lived up to its billing, having Red Cliffs in early trouble at 3-10.
Despite some fight in the middle order, Red Cliffs was not able to recover, being bowled out in the 48th over for 123.
Brayden Buchanan and Paddy Mahony were the most successful of the bowlers with three wickets each.
Buchanan injured a hamstring and looks likely to be rested from today’s game against Northern Districts.
Coates said it was a tough day for batting.
“They had a good attack so I just tried to knuckle down and get something we could bowl at,” he said.
“That’s how it turned out, our boys bowled well and we took our chances.”
The GCA division three team lost its game to Upper Loddon by 64 runs.
