And if you haven’t been there yet, the place you need to go
It took just one day for a poem to emerge about Port Fairy after the town was awarded the Wotif Aussie Town of the Year.
It took Colin Kanters two hours to pen his Ode to Port Fairy at the Catalina Caravan Park where he is staying.
Kanters said he was inspired by the town’s recent success and thought he would put something on paper.
He has already performed the poem to some people at the caravan park and also the owner of the park.
Kanters was born in Minyip near Horsham and has been coming to Warrnambool and Port Fairy for 30 years.
Here is the full poem:
Ode to Port Fairy
As I was travelling around Australia
I came across a town
And decided I would camp there
to watch the sun go down
And as the sky was turning darker
The stars began to shine
I realised that I had found a
Town locked back in time
It’s the world’s most livable community
The signs they told me so
And if you haven’t been there yet
The place you need to go
The people there are friendly
They smile as you pass by
And you’ll love the grub
At the local pubs
Or a baker’s apple pie
Port Fairy it’s a coastal town
And fishing there is great
It’s worth your time to cast a line
While bragging to your mate
So next time you need a holiday
And a bloody real good rest
Port Fairy that’s the place to go
In Victoria’s great South-west
We’re looking forward to seeing you
In our pretty country town
The place to be beside the sea
And watch the sun go down
