Jack Neave, 22, of Morriss Road, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Thursday to drug and driving-related offences. 

Magistrate Franz Holzer said Neave was a young person with good rehabilitation prospects but if he wanted to get better, he had to “bend his back”. 

On July 14, Neave was intercepted by police driving a silver Camry west on Raglan Parade about 8.30pm. 

His probationary licence was suspended, there were no P-plates displayed, the front tyres were deemed unsafe and there was a three-year-old child not properly restrained in the passenger seat.

An oral fluid test revealed Neave had ice in his system. 

Then on September 7, police were called to a collision on Mortlake Road about 8.30am. 

Neave told police he had reached for a cigarette before colliding with a vehicle that stopped in front of him. There was a child passenger in the car. Neave told police he was driving his friend’s child to school. 

At the time of the collision, Neave’s licence was still suspended, there were no P-plates displayed and he tested positive to methylamphetamine.

He failed to appear in court in December and police executed a search warrant at his property. Two capsules of prescription medication Lyrica were located in his bedroom. Neave told police he didn't appear in court because he slept in.
