The grass and scrub fire on the corner of Conns Lane and Tower Hill Road started at 3.50pm and was put out by the Country Fire Authority at 4.42pm on Monday.
The fire caused 2405 homes to temporarily lose power, according to Powercor, including more than 1000 homes in Koroit.
A hole could be seen in the power pole following the fire.
Power has now been returned to the majority of these homes.
CFA District Five operations manager Richard Bourke said the fire appeared to have been caused by a power fault opposite the Yangery substation.
He said sparks fell on to the ground and caused a small fire roughly 50 metres by 20 metres on a farming property.
Seven brigades were called to the scene, including tankers from Winslow, Woodford, Koroit and Warrnambool.
