Butters blasted 17 sixes and 22 fours against Allansford on Saturday to produce his first Warrnambool and District Cricket Association division one double century.

It was the fifth ton of his division one career.

Butters, whose previous best was 156, faced 188 balls and made the most of the Uebergang Oval parameters, smashing one six to the football oval next door.

“It was a really good wicket at Allansford and it was a fairly small ground which helps,” he said.

The multiple Woodford premiership player, who recently represented Vic Country at the Australian country championships, said the knock was a confidence-booster.

“Going into the game I wasn’t hitting them very well,” Butters said.

“I was a bit nervous at the start because we were chasing 200, which is a pretty good score, so that was the main aim to get that.

“I was stoked to get a hundred, any division one hundred is always a good one.

“I wasn’t thinking about high scores, it was more about seeing the ball and hitting it I guess. We were just happy to win, obviously every win counts at this stage.

“They’re a really good side with Benny Boyd and Chris Bant, so to knock them off (was good).”

Butters said the Eels’ aim was to “consolidate our spot in the top four”.

The Eels made 7-443 in their eight-wicket win over the Gators.
