Its conqueror in round 13 was arch rival City Memorial Red, who proved too strong, winning 96-84. Gold hangs onto second place on the ladder but only just, with Red three points behind.
Koroit Blue has extended its lead at the top to 23 points after a comfortable 109-61 win over Warrnambool Blue.
Timboon Gold was the team that upset Warrnambool Gold last week but it came back to earth on Saturday. It travelled into town to take on City Memorial Gold and walked away with a 121-73 loss.
City Memorial Gold won three of the four rinks in a performance that pleased skipper Kevin McMahon.
“It was a good win, we are going alright at the moment,” McMahon said.
“We have a couple of new faces and everyone is having a crack.”
McMahon’s men sit in seventh place on the ladder.
He said while the focus is on each week, the bigger picture has been glanced at.
“I think the top three are set but it could be interesting for fourth,” he said.
“It’s a real raffle at the moment, we are a bit of a chance.”
