Club president Paul Cleaver said the small wheel and big wheel winners would leave with $5000.
“It’s probably the largest (prizemoney) around here,” he said.
“It is the first time we’ve done it. It’s something different and it attracts different cars to the area.”
Cleaver said 100 cars, from as far as New South Wales and South Australia, had entered across all classes.
Street Machine drag challenge winner Frank Marchese is a drawcard.
More than half the field is from south-west Victoria.
Cleaver said the WDDRA planned its meeting around the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic – a three-day event at Premier Speedway.
He said the drag racing club’s Saturday meeting, which will run from 9am to 4pm, was the perfect way for sprintcar fans – 10,000 are expected at Sunday’s finale – to fill in their day before night racing.
Entry to the drags is $5 per adult.
“It’s cheap entertainment while they are in Warrnambool and it’s why we’ve tried to piggyback on the same day,” Cleaver said.
