Allansford coach Ben Boyd and Russells Creek captain Cam Williams were given baggy green caps after they were named in the team of the tournament after staring in Vic Country’s second place finish at the annual carnival.
For Boyd, who was captain of the Vic Country side, it was his four time in five visits to the carnival he received the honour after taking out the Bill O'Reilly award with a tournament-high 18 wickets.
It was Williams first time receiving a cap – which he earned for claiming the Ian Healy wicket keeping award with 12 catches, recording six stumpings and scoring 162 runs at an average of 22.5 as an opening batsman – in his second time at the carnival.
The prolific run-scorer said it was pleasing to receive the honour after a strong tournament.
“I’m stoked to get one as last year I just missed out and this year I really wanted to excel at the tournament,” the left-handed batsman said.
“But you always want the team success and we finished second but this caps it off pretty nicely.”
Boyd said he was weighing up whether to return for a sixth carnival.
“Whether I will go back once again will all be based on my family and my fitness as next year it will be in Toowoomba,” the right-arm fast bowler said.
“If I do get selected or decide to go it will be a good way to finish off and would mean I have played cricket in every state.”
