He is believed to have been shot in a thigh by a .22 calibre firearm and was not seriously injured.
Police officers have been told the man was investigating a barking dog at a property in Merrivale’s Silesia Court at 3.50am Sunday.
It’s understood the injured man does not live in Merrivale and was a long way from his home address.
Melbourne-based Victoria Police armed crime squad detectives have taken over the investigation and are following up a number of lines on inquiry, including whether the injured man was meeting anyone.
Sunday: A MAN was shot in the leg in Warrnambool after investigating a barking dog in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police are investigating after the man presented to hospital with a gunshot wound.
Investigators have been told the man was investigating a barking dog at a property on Silesia Court about 3.50am.
The 28-year-old Warrnambool man heard a loud bang and then realised he had an injury to his leg.
He walked to hospital and police were alerted.
