The Melbourne Cricket Club all-rounder was part of the Country side, which won every game it played at this year’s tournament played in Shepperton over the past week.
Townsend said three years of bad luck was washed away in the moments after Country secured the nine-run victory.
“I think we have been runners-up once or twice but we have played finals in each of the four years the competition has been running but never managed to win one,” the 26-year-old said.
“So it’s good to finally get up and win with a great bunch of girls. It’s a really good feeling.”
Country were able to defend their total of 122 by restricting Queensland Country to 113.
Townsend, who also coaches Nirranda’s A grade netball side, made 54 runs and took seven wickets across the tournament.
“It wasn’t my best week personally, but there were two games I performed well in,” she said of her performances throughout the tournament.
“But we had the depth in our batting, bowling and fielding to be able to get us over the line.”
Vic Country’s men’s side had no such luck as they fell to overall winners Western Australian in the one-day final.
The Ben Boyd-led squad, which featured fellow south-west cricketers Cam Williams, Nick Butters and Ben Threlfall, restricted WA to 188 in the first innings but were bowled out for 119 in reply.
Williams made 25, while Butters failed to make a mark departing for zero before Threlfall added nine to the total later in the innings.
