Warrnambool artists Jimmi Buscombe and Alara Harris have painted a couple of kookaburrras at the south end of the city’s main street. 

The kookaburras have been painted so they look like they are perched on the drinking fountain out front of Figsellers Cafe.

Mr Buscombe and Ms Harris got started Thursday morning and surprised themselves by finishing the piece in just six hours. 

“We thought it was going to take at least a couple of days but we smashed it out,” Mr Buscombe said.

“It was great.”

Mr Buscombe and Miss Harris were part of the team that painted the Fox and Penguins piece in the laneway behind Fishtales Cafe which is on Liebig Street. 

Miss Harris said that experience helped them work more quickly on the kookaburras piece. 

Many people stopped to watch the artists while they worked away including Betty Petherick from Warrambool. 

Ms Petherick said she was impressed by the new work and was a big fan of street art. 

“I think it’s wonderful,” she said.

“It just livens the street up.

“It’s lovely to watch how it progresses and takes shapes.” 

Ms Petherick said she was also impressed by the art installations at Warrnambool aged-care provider Lyndoch Living. 

Mr Buscombe said many onlookers asked whether they would be doing more artworks. 

Mr Buscombe and Ms Harris now look forward to working together on the successful Pick My Project idea #WildVsWarrnambool due to start in April.
