Corey Wood, 20, of Flaxman Street, appeared in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Friday charged with aggravated burglary, intentionally cause injury and intervention order-related offences.
Lawyer Julia Munster said Mr Wood would plead not guilty to the charges due to mental impairment.
She said a mental health assessment would take place on February 11.
“This is a very sad matter,” she said
“Mr Wood is extremely unwell.”
Police allege Mr Wood stabbed two men at a Flaxman Street property on October 15.
A 30-year-old man was airlifted to Melbourne with stab wounds to his stomach while a 53-year-old received facial lacerations.
Police were called about 5.45pm and the accused was arrested after a search.
Police said the three men were known to each other.
Mr Wood did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until March.
