VicEmergency issued a “severe” shark warning at 2.40pm on Thursday.
Lifesavers will close patrolled beaches and the red and yellow flags will be taken down.
People are advised not to swim at the beach. Lifesavers will continue to observe the beach and monitor conditions during patrol hours.
Lifesavers will reopen the beach when the perceived danger has passed.
This will be indicated by replacing the red and yellow flags.
It comes after an unconfirmed shark sighting at Warrnambool’s Point Ritchie about the same time on Wednesday.
