The Waves’ under 17 female side will play Eastern Breakers in Friday’s grand final, eager to one step better than their under 14 clubmate which fell in Thursday’s decider.
Under 17 coach Maddi Tobias said recovery was crucial to the Waves’ chances of completing their Youth Premier League campaign on a high.
“There will be water therapy and massage,” she said after their final preliminary round victory over Central Highlanders on Thursday.
“We need to make sure we’re not too exhausted. They are all pretty sore and that’s one thing we noticed today but that’s to be expected after a week of cricket.”
The under 17 team scored an eight-wicket win over Central Highlanders to book its grand final spot.
“We are stoked. We went in knowing twenty20 wasn’t our strength and it was pretty exciting to get the win,” Tobias said.
The Waves’ under 14 team finished second in the state after falling to Inner East Emus in the grand final.
They had won their seven matches before the 58-run loss.
“The pressure got to us a bit more than them in the field,” coach Grace Lee said.
“The girls were disappointed (to lose), you could see it in their faces, and I had to reinforce that being second in the state is a great achievement.
“They will come back bigger and better next year.”
Lee said Brierly-Christ Church pocket rocket Hannah Rooke, who had figures of 0-4 off three overs and showed nous in the field, was a standout.
