Koroit and Hawkesdale all-rounder Fletcher Cozens has made 203 runs – 99 on day one and 104 on day two – in his first two innings for Warrnambool Gold at the representative tournament.
Warrnambool Gold coach Matt Wilkinson said Cozens deserved his century against Colac Gold on Tuesday.
He said Cozens’ ability to push aside the disappointment of falling one short on Monday “summed him up”.
“He’s a really good player to watch. He is prepared to take his time early and he really built into his innings but I could certainly tell he was pretty determined to get retribution for yesterday and get one more,” Wilkinson said.
“Cricket, as a numbers game, can be pretty cruel sometimes.
“There’s a big difference between 99 and 100 when you’re talking about cricket.”
Cozens, 14, said individual performances paled in comparison to team success.
Warrnambool Gold has won its first two matches.
“It was more about getting the win, I wasn’t really worried about getting the ton,” he said.
Cozens said batting partners Flynn Wilkinson (46) and Daniel Hawkins (25) helped.
“I feel pretty good and pretty confident in my own ability,” he said of his first two digs.
Warrnambool Blue defended 60 to score a five-run win over Colac Black.
Sam Artz (3-9), Nick Blacker (3-8) and Ethan Boyd (2-15) did the damage with the ball.
