Bernard Whelan, 28, of Bacchus Marsh, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court on Monday to possessing methylamphetamine. He was arrested about 8.30pm on Friday after police intercepted him walking south on Warrnambool’s Menzies Street.
He told police he was in possession of “a few points”.
Police located a small bag containing 0.2 grams of ice, valued at $100.
Whelan was recently released from jail after serving three-months for drug trafficking in November.
That charge related to an incident when police located 32 grams of ice and a small amount of cash in the house Whelan shared with a co-accused at Warrnambool’s Murray Street. The drugs were valued at $10,000.
Upon his release he was placed on a 12-month community corrections order with conditions he do 200 hours of unpaid community work, as well as treatment and rehabilitation.
Lawyer Sarah Westwood said Whelan had moved away from Warrnambool but had returned for a short period to visit his friends over the summer holidays.
She said the treatment-based community corrections order had not yet started with the first appointment to be held on Thursday.
She said Whelan was expecting to start a new job back home at the end of the month.
Magistrate Franz Holzer said if Whelan wanted to stay out of trouble, he should steer clear of Warrnambool.
Whelan was sentenced to the three days’ he had already spent on remand in custody.
