The Camperdown teen who graduated from year 12 at Mercy College last month, has been cha-cha-ing his way through rehearsals for the latest Holiday Actors’ production The Boy from Oz.
Demby joins a cast of 45 in a two-and-a-half hour production of what publicist Elena Agnew described as “a dazzling, funny and moving story of the legendary Australian entertainer, Peter Allen”.
Directed by Tyler Hess, the production traces Peter’s life from singing in country pubs aged 11, becoming a teenage TV star, being discovered by Judy Garland, marrying Liza Minnelli and eventually reaching international stardom as a flamboyant performer and songwriter.
Demby said playing the role of Peter Allen was very rewarding.
“He’s very tenacious,” he said.
“Not everything in his life went to plan but somehow he found a way to succeed and a big part of that was learning to accept himself as he was.”

Demby said the production would surprise audiences.
“You can expect everything and more,” he said.
“We’ve got lights and amazing talent and sequins, so many sequins. And disco balls, you’ve got to be ready to have a party when you come to the show.”
The Boy from Oz will be held at Warrnambool’s Lighthouse Theatre from January 9 to 12.
Daily shows start at 7.30pm and are not recommended for children aged under 11.
