Dandy Diamond and Royal Spinner were nominated for the Woodford meeting on Monday but Cerchi chose to scratch them from Woodford and run them both at Terang – where they won.
Dandy Diamond scored an easy victory in a maiden while Royal Spinner won the time honoured Peter Blank Sprint.
“I just decided to run them where they could win,” Cerchi said.
“Both horses would have been competitive at Woodford but I doubt they would have both won. It was an easy decision to place them in races they can win. I thought Dandy Diamond was ready to win. We paid $46,000 for him as a yearling in Adelaide.
“He’s been a slow maturing horse who will be better suited to races over more ground. The win is a great result for Keith Elliott, Brian Hudson and Richard Harper they have been long term stable owners.”
Royal Spinner made up for his unlucky last start third at Colac with a strong win over Rhythmatic and Red Casino in the sprint over 1125 metres.
“We just had to forget Royal Spinner’s last run,” he said.
“He was a good thing beat at Colac. He’s filled the minor placings in 16 races with a bit of luck he should have won more races during his career.”
Apprentice jockey Chelsea Hall was the most successful jockey booting home three winners on the six-race program.
