From sunshine and surf life-savers to boating flags and more than a thousand little rubber ducks.
The annual Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club fundraiser attracted thousands to the edge of the Moyne River, all vying for the best view of the unusual spectacle of toy duck racing.
For the first time in the race’s 24 years, the competitors were launched off the edge of a crayfish boat, rather than using a crane.
This year’s overall winner was Port Fairy’s Margie Nunn, taking home $700 when her lucky duck crossed the finish line first.
Port Fairy’s Stockdale and Leggo Real Estate were the winners of the $1000 corporate prize, swimming in ahead of 54 other entries.
Port Fairy Surf Life Saving Club project officer Paul Buchanan said
“Our club is made up entirely of volunteers so today’s event helps us run our programs,” he said.
Moyneyana Festival figurehead Reg Harry said the appeal of the event lied in its uniqueness.
“It’s like the Dachshund Dash, what will Port Fairy think of next?,” he said.
“We’re setting the standard in duck racing.
“You’re seeing things in Port Fairy that will be talked about world-wide.”
