January 1
Port Fairy: If the head can handle the sounds of heavy artillery, head over to Port Fairy for the cannon firing and wooden boat parade at 12 noon and the duck derby at 2pm. The events are all part of the Moyneyana Festival’s New Year’s Day at the Wharf.
Speedway: Warrnambool’s Premier Speedway is hosting Round 5 of the World Series Sprintcars on Tuesday. Gates open at 3pm, Open Pit Party 3 to 4pm and racing from 5pm. Drivers will be battling it out for a $10,000.00 pay day in in the quest for the Neville Pike Cup.
Silence: If it’s peace and quiet you crave to start 2019 Warrnambool’s Beachfest program has Guru Dudu Silent Disco Walking Tours at 11am and 7pm from the beach kiosk and 12 noon from the Civic Green.
Music: If you’re still craving live sounds Warrnambool’s live music venue The Loft is hosting The Zoo Chaotic Community Choir from 7pm to 8.30pm. The drop-in style singing space is a weekly group karaoke style event for those who want to join a choir without the pressure.
Terang: The Terang Racing Club is hosting its annual Terang Co-Op Kids Day Out Races on Tuesday. The family-friendly event will include children’s activities, live music and entertainment from 12 noon to 5pm.
January 2
Beachfest: Start the day with beach yoga at the Pavilion Cafe and Bar from 9am to 10am, Tour the city’s most colourful vibes with a Warrnambool Street Art Walk departing the Warrnambool Art Gallery from 10.50am to 12 noon. Storytime on the Green for 3-6 year-olds at 11am on the Civic Green, Guru Dudu Silent Disco Walking Tours 11am and 7pm from the beach kiosk, 12 noon from the Civic Green, Snags on the Sand free barbecue at McGennans Beach 12 noon, Rhyme Time for 0 to 3 year-olds at the Warrnambool Library from 2.30pm. Come n Try Fishing at the breakwater from 4.30pm to 7pm. Chill on the Hill live music at Flagstaff Hill from 5pm to 8.30pm. Flaggy 5km Run Series from 5.45pm at Flagstaff Hill. Warrnambool Cemetary Walks from 6pm to 7pm.
Moyneyana: Summertime Yoga offers a soothing start to the second day of the year from 9.30am at the Port Fairy RSL Club. It’s inflatable Day at Belfast Aquatics from 1pm to 4pm. Jazz band Hot’B’Hines will play on the Fiddlers Green from 2pm to 3pm with the day capped off with Evening Yoga on the East Beach from 7pm to 8pm.
