Guizot, ridden by Linda Meech, defeated Gold Fields by 2.5 lengths with Romancer a length back in third place.
Purcell has won two Woodford cups. His first winner was Absolute Star in 2008.
“It was a painless watch,” he said. “I was very confident before the race Guizot would win and I had no concerns in the run. We had the right barrier and it was a perfect ride by Linda.”
Guizot put the writing on the wall for another victory with a fifth-placing at his last start in the Port Fairy Cup on December 13.
“We had a couple of minor issues with him before the Port Fairy Cup and we knew we had those issues sorted out for the Woodford Cup,” Purcell said. “We may now set him for 1600-metre race at Flemington in the middle of January.”
