Pompey has been selected in the Iron Armour Academy under 20s squad that will undertake a two-week tour of Europe in April next year.
Fellow Warnambool player Marnie Hauraki is also a member of the squad.
The pair have put in the hard yards to make the squad, travelling to Melbourne twice a week for a year to train and secure their places.
Pompey juggled his training commitments with year 12 studies and playing the winter rugby season with the Werribee Bears and the summer season with the Warrnambool Raiders.
The tour to Europe will include playing games and training in France and then in the World Youth Rugby Festival in Portugal.
Pompey is excited about the opportunity.
“I am really looking forward to it, I can’t wait,” he said.
“It will be a great learning experience and a chance to improve my rugby.
“Improving my skills and fitness is something I am working on and this trip will help with both those things.
“It will be great sharing the experience with Marnie, he is very dedicated and committed and has been a great support for me.
“We feed off each other with our rugby so to get the chance to play and train in Europe together is great.”
Pompey will use the European trip as another stepping stone to his ultimate goal of playing rugby professionally.
“My aim is to make the Melbourne Storm under 20s squad,” Pompey said.
“That gets selected in August next year, that is what I will be working towards.
“I am going to move to Melbourne and play with the Werribee Bears again.
“Hopefully I can keep on improving and make it with the Storm.”
Pompey is aiming to raise funds to help cover costs associated with the trip.
He is inviting anyone interested in supporting his fundraising efforts to go to his Facebook page.
