A Telstra spokesperson told The Standard there did not appear to be a problem with the mobile tower servicing the areas and it was continuing to investigate the issue.
Telstra customers have told The Standard they were frustrated not only by the poor service but also by the long wait for Telstra to identify and fix the problem.
The areas affected by the poor service are outside Warrnambool and appear to extend east to Naringal and Nullawarre and almost to Terang and north to Woolsthorpe and Ellerslie.
A request by The Standard on its Facebook page for people to report any Telstra service problems in the affected areas attracted nearly 130 comments about inadequate service in less than 24 hours since it was posted on Monday afternoon.
A Mepunga resident said he had lost all mobile data late on Friday night and the problem was still continuing.
He had to make repeated calls for his mobile voice calls to get through and those calls often then dropped out.
The resident said a Telstra website indicated on Tuesday morning that services would be restored within two days.
Other respondents said there had been barely any coverage in Mepunga East for the past week with one saying all she could hear was broken fragments of static voices and another reporting she could only get access for emergency calls.
Other respondents north of Warrnambool at Ballengeich, Grassmere, The Sisters and Framlingham also expressed frustration at the poor service and the long wait by Telstra to fix the problem.
